Introduction

The following documentation is a compilation of articles and information written by the Pacific Northwest Rural Broadband Alliance in an effort to help provide rural communities the resources needed to build a community ISP using blockchain-based decentralized infrastructure technologies.

The information contained here is designed to accompany the services our organziation provides to under-served or un-connected communities, rural areas, or even localized neighborhoods or small organizations all the resources needed to build and own the critical communications infrastructure they rely on.

The primary intent and purpose of this is to increase the ease and efficency needed in furthering the ability for any group of concerted, passionate, and organized individuals to provide everyone universal acess to a free and fair uncensored internet and facilitate true digital soverienty at the local and even invidual level.

While fundamentally all ISP networks follow and share certain common best practices, technological concepts and principles, it is this unique quality in particular that makes decentralized internet infrastructure technology platforms represent an entirely new dramatic paradigm shift in ISP operations and ownership as a whole, which this much of this content in this section will describe in greater detail.

It is also worth noting that the in the area of decentralized infrastructure projects not all techologies are created equal, every platform has it’s own strengths and weaknesses (which are all in a constant state of flux and evolution), and there is never one singular platform or technolgy that is a perfect solution for every situation.

It is important to have an understanding of what various technology platforms offer, what makes them similar, what makes them different, and criticlally evaluate what technology best meets your needs as well as having the best potential to provide functionality you may not immediately need but possibly/likely benefit from as your particuar network grows.
